The South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty was designated as an AONB in 1960. One of 46 AONBs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland the South Devon AONB the AONB Unit, with guidance of a Partnership Committee, works to enhance South Devon's outstanding beauty for which the designation was applied. The special qualities of the South Devon AONB include its rugged coastline, sandy beaches, secretive estuaries, patchwork countryside and historic villages – to name but a few!
