TPO 966 W1 .
Plantation House , Bennett Road ,

I am writing on behalf of the South Hams Society membership , to support the implementation of TPO 966 W1 on the Plantation House woodland .
The importance of this woodland and it’s setting in the AONB is emphasised further by the presence of the Woodland Trust owned woods that are located immediately above on the slope of the hillside .
Below this combined area of woodland , on the other side of Bennett Road , another substantial woodland stretches downward to Woodcot and Cliff Road .

The Plantation House woodland in effect , forms the middle section of a greater woodland that achieves the highest level of visual amenity , especially when viewed from the estuary and harbour.
The protection afforded by TPO 966 W1 will therefore prevent the possibility of adversely impactful erosion and harm to the aesthetics of the wider landscape character.

This elevated and prominent woodland provides an undeveloped corridor of green space , which is enormously beneficial to habitat and species .
The importance of it’s conservation is clearly illustrated in Salcombe’s emerging Neighbourhood Development Plan ;

Policy SALC env 2 :  awareness and management of wildlife corridors.
( c ) protection of locally distinctive natural features , including protection of mature trees beyond protection of a TPO .

SALC env 7 : maintaining character, density and green infrastructure.

SALC env 4 : identified by community as of special value .
Beauty , habitats and wildlife , retention of historic landscape.

SALC env 5 : existing wooded areas from ridge line to waters edge must be retained.

The South Hams Society implicitly support Woodland Order TPO 966 W1 as served .

Mike Richards .  for and on behalf of the South Hams Society .,
