Saturday 11th January at 11am. Low tide is around noon. Beach clean at West Charleton, via Marsh Lane. Some parking at the local pub. The South Hams Society warmly welcomes you to hear the fascinating story of the merchant sailing ships of Salcombe and Kingsbridge in the 19th century, with particular reference to the famous fruit schooner ‘Isabella of Salcombe’
An illustrated talk by Roger Barrett, which sets sail at 7pm Friday 15th November from Churchstow Church Hall.

The first of the new SHS Farm Briefings. Helping us to better understand farming in the South Hams and the challenges farmers face.
Morning event, 10am (TBC), to be held at Rickham Farm, East Portlemouth. Followed by optional lunch. We will need a number of Landrovers or other 4×4 vehicles. Beach clean at Great Mattiscombe Sands. Meet up in the Start Point car park at 12 noon before going down to this exceptionally pretty beach which is privately owned. 2019 is the UK’s Year of Green Action and is all about connecting people with nature and us all taking much needed positive action for our environment. To help inspire and enthuse action our conference this year is focusing on how community groups can help with nature’s recovery across Devon.

LOOK OUT FOR THE SOUTH HAMS SOCIETY AT THE......
Kingsbridge Show is celebrating it's 138th year this year, 64 of which have been at Borough Farm, just outside of Kingsbridge. The 2018 Show received large numbers of visitors and offered a fantastic family day out with activities and displays of Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Homecrafts, Horticulture, Floral Art, Domestic pets etc. As well as the main ring attractions, there are always lots of stands - Trade Stands for local businesses, craft and hobby stands and local food and drink stands. Not to mention Children’s Pets Corner, Donkey rides, Vintage and Modern Tractors! The Show enjoys live Music and a licensed bar.
Plenty of parking is provided on site but for those of you wishing to be eco friendly and/or make use of the bar there will be a FREE Tally Ho shuttle bus running from Kingsbridge Quay.
SOUTH DEVON AREA OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY – SHORT WALKS
The South Devon AONB Unit is organising a special series of short walks in Kingsbridge as part of Connecting Actively with Nature a Devon wide project which has secured funding through the National Lottery, from Sport England
Starting on 4th June the short walks will help participants to discover the wildlife on the Kingsbridge estuary in a series of 10 minute easy strolls to take in the view and study the wildlife, followed by a cup of tea or coffee and a chat. The walks which will take place every Wednesday during June and July, will be led by Project Officer Adam who is a keen birder and knowledgeable about all sorts of animals, and plants that might be spotted during the stroll.

Saturday, 13th July – Soar Mill Cove
Meet in the car park behind the hotel at 10.00 hrs. This time coincides with low-water which will allow us to make a “clean sweep”.
Saturday, 17th August – Gara Beach
Please meet outside the café at 14.00 hrs. before going down to the beach, which can be rather difficult for those ess agile. It is well worth the effort and is a beach especially enjoyed by children and dogs.
HOLD THIS DATE! Wednesday 11th September at 5pm. A Guided Bird Walk in South Milton. Limited numbers. Further details to follow ..

Volunteers should meet in the car park behind the hotel at 14.00 hrs. It is nearly a quarter of a mile walk down to the beach but is well worth it.
