Winslade Farm Turbine

The Friends of South Hams (FoSH) are pleased to announce that the Secretary of State (SoS) for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid MP published his Report in January 2017 following the 2016 Public Inquiry - and refused planning approval for the Winslade Turbine.

This was the culmination of a 3 ½ year fight against South Hams District Council (SHDC) to demonstrate their decision to approve the Turbine on two separate occasions (against the recommendations of all their professional officers) was quite clearly wrong. The Turbine would have been in the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). An AONB should be afforded the same protection as a National Park. It appears that SHDC failed in their duty to protect the South Hams AONB.

Following a discussion with Sarah Wollaston MP, in order to learn from the SoS and Planning Inspector's Reports it was decided to submit a Corporate Complaint to SHDC. This has been submitted and depending on the response from SHDC a decision will be made to pursue further with the Local Government Ombudsman, Michael King. FoSH have had an initial response to the Corporate Complaint from SHDC and it would appear as yet no lessons have been learnt.
